What is the Triund Trek?
The Triund Trek is a 9-kilometer hike that takes you from the town of McLeod Ganj to the village of Triund. The trek takes you through forests and meadows, and offers stunning views of the Dhauladhar mountain range. The trek is moderate in difficulty and can be completed in 4-5 hours.
The Best Time to Go on the Triund Trek:
The best time to go on the Triund Trek is in the summer, from June to September. The weather is warm and dry, making for perfect hiking conditions. However, if you’re looking for a more challenging trek, you can also try it in the winter, from December to February. Just be prepared for cold weather and possible snowfall.
What to Expect on the Triund Trek?
Assuming you are in good health and have a basic level of fitness, the Triund trek is an achievable challenge for most people. That being said, it’s still a wild and remote place, so it’s important to be prepared for anything. Here’s what you can expect on the Triund trek:
The trailhead is located just outside the town of McLeod Ganj, about 10 kilometers from Dharamkot. From there, it’s a steady uphill hike for about 3-4 hours through forested areas until you reach the meadows of Triund. The last stretch is pretty steep, but the views from the top are more than worth it.
Once you arrive at Triund, you can either camp overnight or head back down to McLeod Ganj. If you decide to camp, there are a few basic rules to follow: stay on established campsites, don’t cook inside your tent, and pack out all your trash. There are also a few additional things to keep in mind: altitude sickness is a real possibility at this elevation (2,827 meters), so drink plenty of water and take it easy for the first day or two; also be aware of weather conditions and be prepared for cold nights – even in summer temperatures can drop below freezing after sunset.
With a little planning and preparation, the Triund trek is an incredible experience that shouldn’t be missed!
How to Prepare for the Triund Trek?
The Triund trek is a popular day hike in the Indian Himalayas. It’s a moderate hike with stunning views, and it’s doable in a day if you start early. Here are some tips to help you prepare for the Triund trek:
- Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so make sure your shoes are up for the task.

Our 4 Day Triund Trek Experience:
Trekking is a popular activity in the Himalayan region and there are many different treks to choose from depending on your fitness level and time frame. Triund is a moderate trek that can be completed in 4 days and offers stunning views of the Dhauladhar range.
We started our trek from McLeodganj, a small town in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The first day was a short hike to Bhagsu Waterfall, which was a nice warm-up for the next three days. We camped overnight at Bhagsu and got an early start the next morning for the main event – Triund!
The trail to Triund is well-marked and relatively easy to follow. However, it is quite steep in places and can be challenging if you’re not used to hiking. It took us about 5 hours to reach the top, where we were greeted with incredible views of the snow-capped mountains. We set up camp and spent the rest of the day exploring the area and taking in the scenery.
On Day 3, we woke early for a sunrise hike to Ilaqa Got, which is a viewpoint located just above Triund. The hike itself wasn’t too difficult, but it was very cold at dawn! The views from Ilaqa Got are even more impressive than those from Triund – you can see for miles in every direction. After spending some time at Ilaqa Got
